Public Transport: Nearest station: from north - Turkey Street and 20 minute walk. From Central London - Enfield Town, Enfield Chase or Southbury and 191 bus. Buses: 191 or W10 to roundabout at Myddleton Avenue and then 10 minute walk up Forty Hill.
Additional Information: The first of 3 walks which Herts. & Middx branch of Butterfly Conservation have kindly agreed to lead. We will be looking at the butterflies, moths and birds you can see in Forty Hall. The birds should still be singing, so this should be an opportunity to identify some of their songs.

Directions: A10 northbound turn left at 2nd set of traffic lights into Church Lane. At mini-roundabout take 3rd exit (Flamstead End Road), then straight over at the next mini-roundabout and almost immediately right into Park Lane. The entrance drive to the carpark is about 100 metres on the right just before the school. A10 southbound; turn right at the 1st set of traffic lights after you have passed the 'large Tescos' and follow the above instructions.

Event: National Moth Night with BBQ beforehand.

Event: Butterflies, moths (including the Chimney Sweeper moth) and birds with the Enfield Parks Outreach Team

Time & Meeting place: 9.30 am outside the café in Cockfosters Car Park, Cockfosters Road, Trent Park. Walk to last approx 2 - 2 ½ hours.

Additional Information: Later in the season and the second of the Butterfly Conservation walks, with the assistance of a local birdwatcher. We hope to see the day flying Chimney Sweeper moth, as well as other interesting butterflies, and some late singing birds.

Event: White Admiral and woodland butterfly species (joint meeting with London Natural History Society). An all day event is also arranged by the LNHS at Ruislip Lido for all insects (see below)
Venue: Ruislip Woods NNR ~ Park Wood

Time & Meeting place: 2 pm at the entrance to Park Wood at the Ruislip Common end. [Near to BP Garage]. The walk will be a circular one through the wood and should last around about 1 ½ hours.
Alternatively join Ray Uffen at 10.30 am at the Ruislip Lido (TQ086893) to learn about the other insects that can be found in this important NNR - bring lunch if staying all day. Ray will join the butterfly walk at 2 pm

Public Transport: Nearest station is Rickmansworth (Metropolitan line or London Marylebone to Rickmansworth Chiltern Railways) ~ please contact Ann Piper if you would like a lift from the station. It is essential to check engineering works before traveling.
Directions: From M25 exit at Jnct 17 (A412), follow directions for Maple Cross. At the first roundabout at the bottom of the hill take the second exit, Slip road parking is about 500m after the roundabout on the right side by the Cross PH.

Venue: Broxbourne Wood Nature Reserve, Herts

Additional Information: This event will be run on a casual basis focused on the sallows on the main ride during the morning followed by an afternoon visit to a territorial area. Optional all day event ~ bring picnic lunch if staying all day and binoculars recommended

Event: Butterfly Walk for White Admiral and Silver-washed Fritillary
Venue: Bricket Wood, Herts

Time & Meeting place: 10 am at lay-by near clearing along School Lane, Bricket Wood. Morning walk to finish approx 12.30 pm
Public Transport: Nearest station is Bricket Wood Station (London Midland - Watford Jnct to St. Albans Abbey Station. Turn right out of the station and head south along Station Rd. After a few hundred yards, the road bends round to the right. At the bend & just before the railway bridge take a left turn into School Lane, see above - check engineering works before traveling)
Directions: From the roundabout at junction 6 on the M1, take the slip road signed M1 south. Take the left turn halfway along this road (Mount Pleasant Lane), do not join the motorway. After a few twists & turns after about a mile you pass under a railway bridge. Turn immediately right into School Lane The lane winds through the wood and after half a mile or so you'll come to the meeting point at a parking bay on the left of the lane, with a large clearing on the right.
