The Duke of Burgundy is the only European member of the Riodinidae family but is often referred to as a fritillary due in part to its coloration. The species was last recorded in Hertfordshire at a known site in 1998, but there are several colonies in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire on the Chiltern Hills.
